Howdy all, We are currently accepting nominations for the first Blades Of Blue ARTIST OF THE YEAR Award. The nominees can be any bluegrass act, and must have had a radio airplay release during the period of October 2003 - September 2004. Upcoming releases will still qualify. The poll will remain open until October 1, 2004 at which time we will select the final five nominees based on online, email, and forum voting.

Your vote DOES count- so be sure to vote here. If your favorite is not in the poll, please attach a response with that nomination.

These are the nominations we have received from listeners so far!

Jen

LOL! same here. I've never even heard of any of these bands except for Michelle Nixon and Chris Stuart.

Del McCoury is the Bluegrass Artist of the Year, has been for years and will be for many more.

Is it supposed to be new artist of the year? I'd agree Del McCoury (or Alison Krauss/Union Station) would be a better choice overall.

well these are supposed to be nominations submitted by listeners to a particular radio show. and that show wont play del or alison or rhonda or just about anyone else who has ever won an award. in fact i dont think theyll be playing michelle nixon or chris stuart too much longer because they are getting too popular Rolling on Floor Laughing .

Oh, I get it - the best band nobody's ever heard. Duh

I actually saw Chris Stuart and Backcountry at the Texas Bluegrass Festival this last summer in Brownwood; otherwise I wouldn't have heard of them.

I don't think I know any of these bands besides Southern Rail...

and they are good, but I think far from being the absolute best band playing right now.

I have to agree. These bands are fairly obscure. That doesn't mean they aren't good, but I listen to a lot of BG and a few of them are vague, but really!

As for airplay for Chris and Michelle -Probably true ff...
Actually we play a lot of award winning artists...but that's another story. This program features regional acts, so unless you are fortunate enough to see a lot of festivals, you may not have heard of these artists, ...but then, our listeners have! I wouldn't discount an artist just because you haven't heard of them... I also wouldn't vote for them. Feel free to nominate your own.

Chris Stuart ! I have known Chris for probably 15 years. He is a great songwriter, fine banjo and guitar player, and an outstanding singer. But above all, he has always been a class act.

I too confess that some of these bands are unkown to me but I liked the chance to surf the web for their sites and listen to some real good MP3's. I've liked The Just Bluegrass Band for a while now. I've got their CD and it is a regular spinner in my car. Their website is http://www.justbluegrass.com/ Wish we could book them here but too far away and no other venue to share dates and travel costs with. I have met Chris Talley somewhere when I lived in MO long ago. She had a good band then but I think she's changed. Her website is http://www.chris-talley.com/

Here are the others, check them out. Some great music, some average music and some not so good but all of it is interesting. Not all true trad. bluegrass but you might be surprised at the new approachs to BG. Some click, some C&P
