Eastwind Bluegrass Band
by Mike Childree, 12/17/2003

Eastwind Bluegrass Band hails from the Chattahoochee River Valley sub-metropolis of Phenix City, Alabama. Most of this traditionalist bluegrass quintet grew up in the area or nearby and consequently share many attitudes and life experiences, but most notably a love of driving, hard-edged bluegrass and traditional acoustic country. This is very evident to anyone who's within earshot, whether they've kick off an old standard or one of their original tunes.
Four members, Roger Newman (mandolin, vocals), George Miles (banjo, vocals), Paul Greene (guitar, vocals), and Ron Hall (fiddle), have had personal and musical relationships in various combinations since their teens but this particular combination was not formed until bassist Mike Childree joined in 2001. Any observer would quickly note that this group enjoys a great friendship, shares a passion for the music, and a desire to deliver a high-quality, high-energy performance each and every time.
Currently, Eastwind Bluegrass Band has 2 independently-produced CD releases: "Eastwind Bluegrass Band" (2001), and "Never Grow Old" (2002), which is the group’s bluegrass gospel project. As of fall 2003, the group is in the studio recording its third release, which will contain a majority of original material, including contributions from local songwriters as well as those of the band. Eastwind CDs can be purchased online from CDBaby.com, Towerrecords.com, or from the band’s website. Their site also contains lots of photos, band bios, scheduling, song downloads, and news about the group.
